Semite is a term for a linguistic group. The current most spoken Semitic languages are: Hebrew, Arabic, Amharic, Tigrinya, and Aramaic.

Semites are any people who speak a Semitic language.

Note: Speakers of Tigrinya and Amharic are often considered "Africans" due to their darker skin, but their languages are Semitic.

Answer:Biblically speaking, the Semites are all the descendants of Shem. See Genesis ch.10. This includes the people of Ammon, Moab, Elam, Assyria, Midian, Edom, the Arabs, Jews, Medanites, Arameans and others.
