The prominent English builder and outdoorsman William Willett invented DST in 1905 during one of his pre-breakfast horseback rides, when he observed with dismay how many Londoners slept through the best part of a summer day. An avid golfer, he also disliked cutting short his round at dusk. His solution was to advance the clock during the summer months, a proposal he published two years later.

answ2. A young man in New Zealand, George Vernon Hudson is credited with this invention. In 1895 he presented a paper to a local science society, which eventually led to the adoption of some daylight savings.

Several people had also come up with this idea, but Hudson was the first to have the idea enacted into law.

He worked for the Post Office, and some of his work was shift work, hence he had an appreciation of extended daylight hours. His interests were in lepidoptery and astronomy. He suggested having daylight saving as a method of giving him more time for his hobbies. His work on NZ Moths and Butterflies is a seminal work, and much sought after.

Modern daylight saving time (DST) was first proposed by George Vernon Hudson from New Zealand.

DST was first implement on 30 April 1916 by Germany and its World War I allies as a way of conserving coal during wartime. Britain, most of its allies, and many European neutrals soon followed suit.

Who made daylight savings?

Ben Franklin was the first to propose to save the use of candles by getting up earlier in the morning to make use of sunlight, but the US did not implement Daylight Saving Time until WWI. It was to help conserve energy resources for the war. The schedule for DST has changed many times in the US. The last change was made in 2007.

How did Benjamin Franklin come up with daylight savings?

He didn't; he just advocated that people should get up earlier in the summer to make more use of the daylight hours. The idea of daylight saving time, ie changing the time shown on clocks, is generally credited to Englishman William Willett (1856-1915), although New Zealander George Hudson has also been credited with the idea. Willett campaigned long and hard for daylight saving time in Britain, and it was eventually introduced in that country in 1916, primarily to reduce the use of coal during the First World War.

Is daylight savings a government scam?

There have been some claims that Daylight Saving time is a scam, and even an article in the "Washington Post" that points out that Daylight Saving time is useless. It is up to each individual to decide what they believe. Personally, I tend to go with useless rather than it being a scam.

Would daylight savings be useful to Antarctica?

Scientific stations in Antarctica usually operate on the local time for the government that they serve. There is no standard time in Antarctica. If the country headquarters is on daylight savings time, then so is the Antarctic base. However, when the sun is up 24 hours out of the day, there's not much value to the notion.

How does the affect the phases of the moon?

Well if I think of it from off the top of my head I'd have to say daylight savings. The affects of human beings relating to the moon changing can be the states that practice daylight savings. When daylight savings happens others either go back an hour or forward. Some say it is for the government to limit electricity being used, but I think it is best to look up the ideas of Paul Revere.
