Flying Officer Finkle had the distinction of completing two operational tours of thirty missions each as a bomber navigator, flying on North American Mitchell bombers with the Royal Air Force's 180 Squadron. Following the war, Flying Officer Finkle served as a fighter controller with 2402 (Reserve) Squadron, RCAF, located here, into the 1960s.

Flying Officer Finkle's expertise in the use of the GEE radar navigation system and more traditional methods of navigation meant that he often served as a his Squadron's and Wing's lead navigator, responsible for getting a bomber stream on target, on time.

In addition to his Air Force service, after the war Flying Officer Finkle had a successful business career, becoming renowned for his expertise in the Stock Market, particularly in the mining and energy sectors.
