No Hosea was a minor prophet.

Additional Information:

Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi are called "Minor Prophets", but are really only 'minor' in length; certainly not in importance or impact of their prophecy.

Hosea prophesied for atleast 59 years, making huge personal sacrifices in his life to illustrate God's message to adulterous Israel (Hosea 1:1), pleading with them to return to God , but finally prophesying their end (Hosea 1:2; 2:2, 12, 13)(Hosea 2:6-8)(Hosea 3:1-3) Hosea's prophecy demonstrates God's compassion and mercy on those who may slip spiritually, showing that if one stops doing what's bad and starts serving God again, he will forgive and welcome them. Even though the Israelites caused God great pain, he knew their makeup, that they were simply made of dust. (Psalm 78:38-41) Such mercy should move us to stay close to God.

Hosea was a minor prophet to Israel around 748BC-690BC and author of the Book of Hosea.

He warned Israel against the pagan cults of the Canaanites, but at the same time reassured them of God's love for them and exhorted them to repent and return to God's ways.
