He was born Steveland Hardaway Judkins on May 13, 1950, in Saginaw, Michigan. He has 5 siblings.

He began playing instruments and singing in his church choir at an early age. He is a Christian who is also known for his political activism.

He was discovered by Gerald White of The Miracles, taken to Motown where he met with and was signed to Motown's Tamla label by Berry Gordy in 1961, when he was 11 years old. He still sings and records for Motown.

Stevie Wonder has had a prominent place in popular music for over 40 years, recording over 30 top 10 hits. He has won 22 Grammy awards, an Academy Award for Best Original Song, and has won a Lifetime Achievement Award. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters' Hall of Fame. He has sold over 100 million albums.

He was married to singer Syreeta Wright from 1970 to 1972 and has been married to fashion designer Kai Milla Morris since 2001. He has seven children, his firstborn being Aisha Morris because of whose birth he recorded the hit "Isn't She Lovely." He and Kai Milla have two sons, Kailand and Mandia.
