A litigation friend is a person who represents another in a court case if they are unable or unfit to do so themselves. Mainly this applies to civil cases in which minors are awarded damages for injury etc , in such a case the litigation friend (Usually but not limited to a parent or guardian) will represent the person in question. Also, litigation friends are commonly used for people who have mental disorders or disabilities which make them unable to bring the claim themselves. The litigation friend will be required to fill out a simple form so they can legally represent you! They must ALWAYS act in the best interests of whom they are representing and have no grievances with them. If money is awarded this will be held by the courts funds office until the claimant is deemed Fit to look after there own money ( In minors Case this awarded when they are 18 and is known as the date of majority) . Until this time the litigation friend is partly responsible for any money rewarded and will be sent statements with the account balance 2 times a year.

Hope this helps :)
