Both the SAS (Special Air Service) and Royal Marines are very lethal parts of the British military, but both have different missions. The Royal Marines are part of the Royal Navy, and operate both as commandos, in small units, or in larger units as part of an amphibious force. The SAS is trained to operate in 2-3's, scouting far into enemy territory. In the 1991 Gulf War, for example, SAS in specially-equipped long-range jeeps roamed the Iraqi deserts from Jordan to look for the Iraqi Scud missile launchers targeting Israel and Coalition troops.

∙ 14y agoSAS are trained for special operations, whereas Royal Marines are trained for more traditional military roles. Each has its purpose, and each is superb at it. THE SAS ARE MORE EXTENSIVELY TRAINED IN MANY DIFFERENT AREAS. THEIR TRAINING IS MUCH LONGER AND IT IS MUCH MORE STRINGENT IN THEIR RECRUITMENT. MANY A GOOD MARINE COULD NOT PASS THE TRAINING FOR SAS AND ARE SENT BACK TO THEIR UNIT. THERE IS NO SHAME INVOLVED IT IS JUST THAT THE STANDARDS ARE SET VERY HIGH. SAS are stronger and better trained but you have a better chance of getting into the Royal Marines but the SBS ( Special Boat Service) the army sound bad but they the Best of the Best. You have to be in the SAS to get into the SBS The SBS is the equivalent of the SAS and is a branch within the Royal Marines. Candidates go through a similar training but with special regard to amphibious tasks. Many SAS members have had SBS training.

∙ 10y agoThis question is impossible to answer, not only since it is entirely a matter of opinion, but also because the two units are completely diffrent in approach and what they are used for.
The USMC is a marine combined arms unit, containing among other things both air and armored parts. It contains near 200 thousand active men and women, and is used for amphibious and expeditionary warfare.
The S.A.S. is comprised of 3 regiments, one Regular Army and the one commonly refered to, the 22nd Regiment, and two Territorial Army, the 21st and 23rd Regiments.
The S.A.S. regiments consists of 4 squadrons, each consisting of around 60 men, and they specialise in various forms of unconventional warfare, what is commonly referred to as 'Special Forces' or 'Tier One' work. This makes any verifiable information about them hard to get, but it can probably be said with SOME degree of certainty that the total number of men in the three regiments does not exceed 1000.
So, as shown, the question does cannot be answered, as the two units do entirely diffrent things, and thus do not compare in any meaningful way.

Who is better sas or marines?
While the U.S. Marine Corps is much harder to be accepted into than the U.S. Army; it is a completely separate branch of the military. The SAS are trained specifically for Special Operations, while the USMC has several specialist branches within it (i.e. there are USMC fighter pilots, while the SAS only has infantry personnel) Therefore, to compare the whole USMC to the Elite Special Forces of the British Army is rather unreasonable. While the USMC basic training lasts 12 weeks; just to nominate for SAS selection, candidates need to have passed the 14 week basic training for the British Army. SAS candidates must undertake a selection process of 19 weeks that tests their teamwork and fieldcraft knowledge. Therefore, in terms of training and skill, SAS is much better equipped than the USMC. Once again, to compare SAS and USMC is unreasonable, as the SAS is a select special forces element much like the Navy SEALS. Hope this helps :)

I would say yes, the Delta Force is a close American counterpart to the British SAS, and perhaps inspired to a large degree by the SAS. American Delta force was betterd by S.A.S int he 60's and the S.A.S still help train Delta and Navy seals today.
