Elvis was about ten years ahead of The Beatles. Interesting side note. In those days getting to appear on the Ed Sullivan show was a guarantee to launch a career. There was a country singer trying to get national attention that appeared on the Sullivan show the same night Elvis Presley did. Of course Elvis so overshadowed the guy that everyone forgot about him. He kept trying and finally landed a gig on the Sullivan show again. But, as luck would have it, that was the night the Beatles first performed in America. So, once again the guy was out performed and forgotten. I used to know his name but can't remember it anymore.
for the older ones Elvis for the kids the beatles for my opinion Elvis!!!!!
As a single singer it was Elvis, as a band it was the Beatles.
Elvis was the most popular all those girls screaming for him
The Beatles.
Beatles-20
Elvis-18
The Beatles have sold more records than anyone else.
No Elvis song replaced a Beatles number one.
As far as #1 hit singles, they have recorded 27 hits in their career.
The Beatles have 20#1's in the US, Elvis 21 in the UK but three are counted twice and one is a remix by another artist so in reality the Beatles and Elvis are still tied at 17 in the UK. Overall the Beatles have the most #1's. Actually if you are looking for who has the most #1's ever, any genre, it would be George Strait, who to date has had 57 #1 songs.
Although many will say the Rolling Stones, they were good friends. The Beatles even gave them their first big hit with "I Wanna Be Your Man" (the Beatles later did this song themselves on Meet the Beatles). I would say that Elvis Presley was very 'anti-Beatle' (If that's what you mean). He hated these guys and even went to Richard Nixon and asked if he could get them off the charts! So I would say that Elvis Presley was the anti-Beatles.
Actually it's the beatles with 20
To the best of my knowledge it is The Beatles and Elvis Presley with 17 number one hits ... but in reality the beatles had 16 and another number 1 hit with Billy Preston .. this answer is correct as of 12/6/2010 ( Calvin McClure musician/entertainer)
The Beatles had the most (20), and Elvis Presley is second (18).

When Elvis was big, they didn't have Billboard ratings, so he didn't have any #1's, but the Beatles had 27. Those 27 hits are all available on one single album, entitled simply "1," and released in 2000, if you want to look up what the were.
Not including "Best of's" or "Compilations", the Beatles released 22 singles, 13 EP's and 12 LP's in the UK, and 33 singles, 3 EP's and 17 LP's in the USA.

The Monkees had the biggest-selling single in the US in 1967 ("I'm A Believer", which became their biggest hit), outselling even the Beatles' singles that year.
yes as a band The Beatles have the most number one singles of all time. no other Band has more. Elis Presley has one more number 1 hit than they do but he was solo performer. but that might have changed after the 2001 Beatles album ONE
