Ares is the God of War. He was the son of Zeus and Hera, and was one of the many lovers of Aphrodite, who was married to Hephaestus. He liked war and bloodshed, but whenever he got hurt, he would run home to Olympus, where Zeus usually laughed and gave him salve to heal his injuries. Mars is the Roman counterpart of Ares.
