There is no one author of the Bible except God.*

The Bible is composed of several books such as Genesis, Exodus, Romans, Mathew, Mark, and so on, written by different people.

There are also two halves of the Bible. The first half is commonly known as the Old Testament. The Hebrew Bible is the Tanakh and contains the Torah which in Hebrew means "the way".

The second half is known as the New Testament which contains the Gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John.

Most English language Bibles are versions of the translation known as the King James version.

*References :

2 Timothy 3:16- All scripture is inspired of GOD and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight in the name of righteousness, that the man of God may be fully equipped, completely competent for every good work.

Therefore, God (Jehovah- Psalms 83:18) inspired man to write the bible.

Historical Perspective

The Bible is a collection of several different books each written by a different person (or group of people). These people would have originally been early scientists and historians searching for answers like the ones people are searching for today, such as how did time begin, how did the Earth begin and when did life first appear. Of course, the stories have been affected by being passed down through the generations and sometimes lost in translation. Many things may have been rewritten by different people, adding their own bit to the story as it went on, changing it, sometimes perfecting it, sometimes not. But it was mainly like modern science and history, in a sense, it was science andhistory, and generations of scholars improved on the story of the Bible as time went on.

So the answer to the question is that the Bible was written by a collection of scientists and historians over many generations of history.

-- alternative view --

Some would say that there is no 'science' in the Bible, but that it is a tribal history of the Jewish people, written by historians and what we would nowadays call 'politicians' - people who wanted to direct the lives of their fellows.

Onto this the fledgling Christian church appended its scriptures.

There was no one primary human author of the Bible. Christians believe that the Bible is inspired by God, so in a sense God is the author of the Bible, However, exactly how that was done (dictation, infusion of ideas, etc.) is a hotly debated topic.

God is the only 'author' of the entire Bible which He had others via inspiration place in writing. Moses is credited with recording the first 5 Books - the Torah:

Deuteronomy 31:24-25

Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

24 Moshe kept writing the words of this Torah in a book until he was done. When he had finished, (LY: vii) 25 Moshe gave these orders to the L'vi'im who carried the ark with the covenant of Adonai:

God. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 and 2 Peter 1:20-21 show that it was God and man that wrote the Bible simultaneously. God told them what to write and they wrote it.

God is the only author of the Bible - it is His Word. It has multiple people who were inspired to write down His words. The first to do so is commonly attributed to Moses.
