Sony may make their own since they're one of the few manufacturers that are inclined to do so, but that doesn't necessary mean that Sony does. Many manufacturers will use displays from several different manufacturers to keep up the demands for supply.
Whatever you do, be sure to check the TV out BEFORE you take it from the store. Why? Because each manufacturer will allow a "certain percentage" of bad pixels in their display and won't cover it under factory OR extended warranty. Problem is, once you find one in your display, you'll be drawn to it each time you watch your TV and it'll become an irritation, reducing your viewing pleasure.
The other thing you should get is an extended warranty. The repair parts could cost half as much (or more!) as what you paid for your TV in the first place, plus the cost of the service call for someone to come out and look at it.
With an extended warranty, if the display goes out, it should be covered under the repair contract, so whomever makes the display really shouldn't be an issue. If not, find a seller that does.
EXRENDED WARRENTY IS A JOKE FOR SONY-$500.00. Their PANELS ARE MADE IN CHINA AND Malaysia. Min quantity for import=5=about $2500
