Saint Jude (one of the 12 Apostles) is known as the Patron Saint of hopeless causes.

Hopeless CausesSaint Jude is the Patron Saint of Hopeless, desperate or lost causes. St Jude (or Judas) was once of the 12 apostles and was present at the last supper, but should not be confused with Judas Iscariot, the betrayer of Jesus. Saint Jude is the brother of Saint James. Saint Jude preached the Gospel in Judea, Samaris, Idumaea, Syria, Mesopotamia, and Lybia.

Saint Jude was the one who asked Jesus at the Last Supper why He would not manifest Himself to the world after the resurrection. Little else is known about his life, accept that he was possible martyred with Saint Simon in Persia.

He is the author of an epistle (letter) written to the churches in the east, particularly the Jewish converts. It is because of this New Testament letter that his help is asked for in desperate situations. The letter stresses that the faithful should persevere in the face of adversity, trials, and difficult times. He has therefore become the Patron Saint of hopeless causes.

Saint Jude's feast day is celebrated on 28th October.
