"Because his mother had her heart set on her youngest son becoming a Presbyterian minister, young Andrew Jackson received a better education than his older brothers. From age 8 to 13 Jackson learned the fundamentals and studied the classics under Dr. William Humphries and then the Reverend James White Stephenson. But Jackson was never really a particulaly a good student and certainly had no intention of entering the clergy.
