She was a schoolteacher who at the time went by the name of Katherine. She taught in a rundown, one-room schoolhouse. When she's caught kissing Sam, the onion picker, he gets killed along with his donkey and Kate becomes an outlaw out of spite. She kissed the men she killed and robbed Stanley's great-grandfather. When Trout Walker and his wife Linda demanded she tell them where the treasure was she was bitten by a yellow-spotted lizard and died.

Kate Barlow was a schoolteacher who fell in love with Sam the onion man. Unfortunately, she fell in love with him in a time when interracial relationships were frowned upon. When she is caught kissing Sam, the town shuns her, and while the pair tries to escape, Sam is eventually shot. The next day, Kate Barlow kills the sheriff and kisses him right after. From that day, she became known as Kissing Kate Barlow, a notorious outlaw.
