Clement C. Clay (born December 17, 1789 in Halifax County, Virginia; died September 7, 1866 in Huntsville, Alabama) succeeded John Gayle as the eighth Governor of Alabama, serving between November 21, 1835 and July 17, 1837, including the whole of 1836.
