Mr Yusof bin Ishak.
Mr Ishak served as the President of the Republic of Singapore from 9 August, 1965 to 23 November, 1970. He is the first President of the country and is succeeded by Benjamin Henry Sheares.
Mr Ishak was initially serving as the Yang di-Pertuan Negara (head of state) of Singapore when Singapore was still under the Malaysian confederation. He served this post from 3 December, 1959 to 9 August 1965.
Mr Ishak was born in 12 August, 1910 in the state of Perak in Malaysia. He passed away on 23 November, 1970 at the age of 60 years old.
He received his education in Victoria School and Raffles Institution. His spouse is Mdm Noor Aishah.

After the Republic of Singapore gained its independence in 1965, Yusof bin Ishak continued his position as the president of Singapore till his death in 1970.
