[ee-seung-maan] was the leader of South Korea during that time..
His name is "Syngman Rhee."
If you type this name in National Archives, you can find some materials about him, because he studied in US.
The leader of South Korea during the Korean Civil War which later resulted in US intervention was Syngman Rhee. He wanted Korea to be reunited, just as Northern leader Kim Il Sung. Rhee wasn't a strong leader and was a personal rival of Kim. He was brought to power with a US sponsored election, that the USSR refused to let North Korea participate in. Although some historians say Rhee was planning to attack the North, there is no strong evidence.
I disagree. Synman Rhee was a very innocent man.
The communist Kim Il-sung governed North Korea at that time.
