Tycho Brahe (1546-1601) was an astronomer and alchemist who was well known for his accurate astrological observations and his massive observatory. He took on Johannes Kepler as an assistant. Though Kepler is much more well known than Brahe, the latter greatly impacted astronomy during the scientific revolution.

the great observer
Roughly, the Tycho Brahe model of the solar system was something between the ptolemic geocentric model of the solar system and the copernican heliocentric model. The sun still revolved around the earth but all other planets revolved around the sun. Interestingly, it was Tycho's pupil Kepler, that refined the Copernican model to include elliptical orbits (until then, orbits were assumed to be perfect circles).
He observed stars. He dicovered periods of the star "super nova". Also King Fredrick I believe gave him an island, and built a castle and observatory in it. Oh and he found that stars have been in the galaxy since the beginning of time.
In the 1500's, the concept of a "degree" was a little different than ours today. Brahe attended the University of Copenhagen and later the University of Rostock in Germany. In those days, the knowledge obtained at school was more highly prized than a document attesting to mere attendance, which is what a college degree signifies these days.
Shortly after Tycho passed away in October 1601
