Most of the early European explorers of Oregon were Spanish. Some of these explorers were Juan de Fuca, Juan Perez, Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra, and Bruno de Heceta. A couple of the British explorers were James Cook and George Vancouver.
Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo sighted Oregeon from his ship and later Juan de Fuca mapped the coast. Juan José Pérez Hernández, Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra, and Bruno de Heceta (Hezeta) y Dudagoitia explored inland for Spain. Later James Cook explored the coast for Great Britain. Lewis and Clark explored for the United States. George Vancouver and David Thompson explored for Great Britain.
Oregon has a significant population of Russian descent as well as many Romani people (aka Gypsies). Today, there are nearly 340,000 people living in Oregon that are descendants of Scandinavians.
