I don't know who wrote the poem, but I believe the actual line reads "caramba! cried the toad. Take me with you, eldest born, I'll help you catch the thief by dawn!" and it was written in a rhyming book for children which I read, hmm, must have been over thirty years ago when I was at infant school in England
If you find any information on the author and the book couold you please let me know.

∙ 9y agoI don't know, but the line "Caramba! Cried the toad" was used repetitively in a musical (?) TV show we watched at Primary School in Tasmania in the 1960's, and the line has haunted me ever since, so I'd like to find out!
