Why are URLs not allowed in answers here on WikiAnswers?

Active links cannot currently be added to answers and URLs are not permitted.

The "Add related links" to the left of the answer box was a place to put a relevant URL for reference. It is no longer active. Old links are still be there, but none can be added. It was more accurate, and kept the answers neat and less confusing.

Unfortunately, many links are advertising websites or businesses - which is contrary to the TOU. Additionally, people provide links that can direct people to places they should not go. You may add URLs to your profile page, but nowhere else on WikiAnswers.

WikiAnswers continues to evolve, so the URL policy could change sometime in the future.

There is a link to the left of the answer box which is "Add related links" where you can place the URL and title it. It makes it more accurate, and keeps the answer neat and less confusing. In addition, it gives the inquirer the ability to go directly to the source without having to copy and paste in the same page or have to start a new page.

When this question was asked, it was not possible to create links on this site. Now with the addition of the Experts section, it is possible. You first have to denote in your profile that you are an expert in one or more categories. Then that has to be approved. After that, you would enter your answers using the experts area. To use the link tool, which looks like a chain, you would first highlight the text where you'd like to insert the link. Then you click the link tool and give the target URL and then click "Submit Query." If you wish to test the link before saving, right click on the text which should now be blue and open it in another window. That should be the link you gave. Then finish your answer and click "Submit" or "Save".

No, What you have to do is add them as a related link. To do this click on Improve answer then above the Save|Cancel buttons there is a word click here and that takes you to add related link.

URLs are not hyperlinked within answers (except for links within WikiAnswers) because links should be reserved for the "related links" section below each answer.
