1) Depending on the specie of animal(s) a Breeder could be apart of the preservation of extincting or endangered animal(s).
2) Breeders also carry the liberty of creating 'Pure' blooded animals for various reasons; show animals, breeding, stud, etc...
3) Breeders could also take part in the creation of animals for our food source, or our food stock pile which in return satisfies our population's demand for food.
4) Breeders take part in the study of 'genes' or 'DNA' strains. Studying 'Genes' and 'DNA' could release data that helps create more domesticated animals for pets and again, our food source. Breeders also help detect which breed of animal(s) is best for certain areas e.g. certain breeds of cows and chickens are better for consuming than making fabrics. The same applies in our areas of other species.
5) Breeders help create certain breeds of 'stud' or 'pure blooded' animals that contain an immunity to certain infectious virus'.
Those are things that just come to the top of the head when thinking about the responsibilities of a Breeder. I may have missed something so if anyone would be kind enough to add to the list, I would appreciate it.
Take care,
