This may not have much to do with religion but may be more socio-economic. Atheists tend to be educated and affluent relative to fundamentalist protestants who tend to be poorly educated and less affluent. Better educated and affluent people commonly delay marriage until the early to mid twenties while a high percentage of poorly educated people marry in their late teens. There is a definite correlation between teen marriage and divorce.
Atheists have a lower divorce rate than theists. Atheists are less likely to divorce.
First, fundamentalism isn't easily measured. Second, one cannot generalize that all, or even most, Muslims are fundamentalists, because the fact is that fundamentalists are most likely the minority in any group.

There misconception of the meaning of Islam fundamentalists. Most of non Muslim media propagated that Muslim fundamentalists mean terrorism and violence. It is the opposite. Islam fundamentals call for peace, respect of other religions, non violence, not terrifying civilians, having good morals, and doing good deeds for the benefit of environment and mankind. Accordingly, a nation governed by fundamentalists should be encouraging all values above. There is dramatic difference between fundamentalists and terrorists. If some Muslims misunderstand Islam fundamentals this should reflect negatively on Islam real good values and principles. Refer to questions below.
Atheists do not all think with one mind much like religionists vary broadly in their thinking. An atheist may be less likely to hold prejudice toward others since religion is a major source for prejudice and atheists do not hold religious biases.

Yes, because Democrats are more tolerant of differences and the protection of civil liberties, including the liberty to choose your religion or no religion. Anybody can join the Democratic Party and people who are persecuted for their differences are more likely to become a member of the party that welcomes them rather than the party of their tormentors. However, this is not to say that there are no atheists in the Republican Party. The focus of the Republican Party is on individual financial liberty and this could appeal to atheists who are financially successful in life.
Neither. Though the Nationalist community is predominately Catholic, they'll likely let nearly anyone join due to their such limited recruits.
It was most likely the Protestant version that they had at that time.
