In the United States we celebrate Independence Day with fireworks displays. Some say this is to commemorate the battles of the Revolutionary War. However, fireworks and other explosions have been a part of important celebrations for many centuries.
Some of the American Founders thought that July 2nd, when they voted to declare independence from Britain, would be celebrated with fireworks forever - and that was an opinion about the importance of the event and about celebrating, not about battles.
