We can print more money, but when we do that too much, we create inflation. Inflation is when the same thing costs more money to buy it.
Money doesn't grow on trees, if the U.S. were to suddenly start printing more money we would enter a period of inflation. Inflation occurs when a country starts producing more money than it's worth. If this were to happen a person who receives ten dollars per hour may be given a raise of fifteen to twenty dollars an hour, however this will also mean that a laptop computer that cost $300 might be bumped up to $500-600. Keep in mind that these are just examples.

We cant just print more money because we have to mach the money in gold. So if we make more money thin it would be less for later things. (such as wars and disaster response.)

Because that causes inflation which lowers the value of the money and you end up with the same or lower total amount of value for your money.
