there is and its called an scanning tunneling.

Sorry but this above answer is false there is NOT any instruments powerful enough to magnify atoms so that they can be seen. The model of an atom we have is a theory because we can't prove the way it looks. The Atom as we know it is just a theroy. Why would this be if we could see an atom. So again no there is NOT an instrument powerful enough to do this.

Consider what an optical lens is made out of. The answer is atoms meaning any lens powerfull enough to focus on a single atom would never be able to display an image as it would automaitically focus on its own atoms.

This is because the greater the magnification of a lens the closer to the lens the focal point is.

you cant't see atom with a microscope because atoms are SO small that nothing can see them.Maybe other inventions can but from what i know nothing can really see an atom.So just go on Google.COM and do your research in case ok ..

optical microscopes are not as powerful as scanning electron microscope's

and the light waves are bigger than the atom

Yes. They are too small to be seen with even the best optical microscopes.

If it is an optical microscope then the structures that can be see are those that are too small to be seen by the naked eye and larger than 1/2 a wavelength of light.

The instrument is an optical microscope.

Are viruses seen under an electron microscope?

Only the largest of viruses (e.g. Pox viruses) can be seen with a good light microscope (albeit with poor detail). Viruses usually can only be seen by electron microscopy. [2nd year Dental student, Naser]

What type of microscope can be used to study a viruses?

As viruses cannot be seen with the optical microscope, electron microscopes are used. All the "lenses" in an electron microscope are magnetic fields produced by electromagnets and/or electrostatic fields produced by electrically charged metal plates and/or rings.

Can atoms be seen using electron microscopes?

An atom can be imaged using an electron beam, since the wavelength of the electron beam is smaller than the atom. This is also the reason it can't be seen using a powerful microscope: the wavelength of light is larger than an atom.

What cannot be seen with a miroscope?

Depends on the mechanism of the microscope, but with an optical microscope, anything smaller than 1/4 the wavelength of the light being used (around 10-6 Meters) eg a virus.

What can be seen under a electron microscope but not a light microscope?

You can see a hair fiber well using an optical microscope, but you can hardly see a dimension 100 times smaller (about 10 microns). An electron microscope can review features as small as 10 nm, about 1/100000 th of a fiber.

Why might you not be able to see the contractile vacuole?

Vacuoles and mitochondria are smaller than the resolution of an optical microscope (though with the right sort of dye some mitochondia can be seen as a small spot). They can be seen with an eletronic microscope.
