North Wales Hospital was shut down in sections. It was shut down between 1991 and 2002. The hospital was shut down because of the "Hospital Plan" proposed by Enoch Powell. This plan would attach the psychiatric hospitals and their patients to medical hospitals. The main hospital was closed in 1995.
