The US is currently in Afghanistan following the attacks on September 11, 2001. The attacks were led by a lone terrorist organization called Al Qaeda, who set up their "headquarters" in the mountains of Eastern Afghanistan. The Taliban, a local extremest group was hired by Al Queda to protect Osama bin Laden the leader of the terrorist organization. The US ordered the Taliban to give up Bin Laden or be destroyed by a US invasion. After a few days it was clear that Bin Laden would not surrender. The US invaded Afghanistan in October of 2001 after intelligence was gathered by a CIA team codenamed "Jawbreaker" and defeated both the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Bin Laden escaped into the Tora Bora mountains and later into Pakistan were he began to rebuild Al Qaeda. The Taliban went into hiding as US forces easily took control of Kabul and other major cities. Currently the US is still in the country fighting an insurgency set up by Taliban warlords. Fewer than 100 Al Qaeda fighters remain in Afghanistan, But US drone attacks around Islamabad Pakistan weaken Al Queda everyday. The US is winning the War on Terror, and now almost all of the United States resources heading for Afghanistan, because of Operation Iraqi Freedom coming to a close, which was a victory.
They are fighting with other countries against the Muslims. The Muslims want every person in the world to be a Muslim - so ofcaurse America and other countries don't like that idea, so they are fighting it out. It's been going on for years... :(
We did not invade them to take them over. The Terrorist group Al Qaeda And the Taliban were in those Countries in which made us go in and get the Countries back from um so the Afghan and Iraqian people can have there country back oh and cause 9/11.
The US occupied the country in coalition with local rebel forces, the Northern Alliance, in response to the 9/11 attacks as the Taliban were harbouring Al-Qaeda in their bases and supporting them.
Or -- American presidents are typically re-elected when there is a war going on.
