He ran away because his new step-father was not spending anytime with him, and his mother was too busy with his step-father to think about Dill. He said they kissed him at night and fed him, and bought him everything, but he still wasn't getting the attention from them that he wanted.

He didn't. He ran away from Meridian, which is where he had lived with his mother and father. He ran away because even though they bought him whatever he desired, he felt unneed and like he was in the way since he had a new father. So he ran away.
