No one then knew the cause of the disease, nor its cure.
So they continued daily living, despite the sudden extreme increase of the disease... And Death Rate.

Well really there were three- the most common being the bubonic plague.
The Bubonic plague effected society because there was no sewer lining and lots of people were dying and there wasn't much help that could be given.
No one ever treated bubonic plague like a joke.

The black death refers to the the Bubonic Plague which swept through Eurasia (Europe and Asia) during the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. It killed huge numbers of people in the 1347 epidemic, and continued to reoccur over the next few centuries.
