Why did they think the Titanic could not sink?

BecauSe the builders tried to plan for every possible scinario and they did, exept for the scraping of a massive iceberg. I personally belive it sank because people were saying god himself couldn't sink it and god got angry and sank it just to proove the titanic could be sank.

^I don't think God would kill roughly 1517 people, causing hundreds of families in pain and grief, letting even children die in freezing ice cold water which was so cold it would be like standing in a shop icecream refridgerater for a day or two... maybe even worse, watching hundreds die while screaming in pain, woman even holding babies in their arms, knowing thousands of mothers and children will never see their daddy again and knowing his last thoughts would be how he wishes he would die faster. I don't think God would do that just because he was a little angry. God is not selfish and wouldn't kill hundreds because he got angry. He sees men rape women everday, murderers killing children, people hurting others everday and you think just because a few people got ahead of themselves saying A ship couldn't sink is going to make him so mad, he decides to do that to children, mothers and fathers? No my friend

Well I think you are both wrong, actually the first dude 2 answer IS wrong. People said it was unsinkable because I was the biggest ship of it's time. The papers had started rumors that it was unsinkable even though it wasn't. Actually White Star Line had tried to explain that actually it wasn't unsinkable but no one was having it.

I know that God isn't selfish and probably hates watching people suffer but there is a chance he didn't like people saying things about a ship that they actually knew themselves to be sinkable. And if God is real that means he made Thomas Andrews who invented the Titanic (well, designed it) which technically means God was the one to design the Titanic so I am pretty sure he wouldn't be too happy that people were spreading untrue rumors about the ship he invented.

The reason why it was claimed to be unsinkable was because of its water tight compartments, they were very reasuring to people because if water got in, they could shut it off. The also had bilge-pumps which meant they could pump water out if water got in, not only that but it had life-boats, it may of not had enough for even half but the presence of life-boats were still there. Titanics size was impressive and thats what probably lead to the rumour.

God gave us free-will. He cannot take or give people ideas so therefore Thomas Andrews ideas were his own. However you cannot blame Andrews, he was the one complaining about the materials they were using and why they were using steel bolts when its one of the weakest metals, reasons for that being Mr. Ismay didn't want to spend alot of money so he ordered the cheapest materials they could get away with, Andrews didn't like this but he had no power as Ismay was the chairman of White Star Line. Again, God cannot control thoughts or input thoughts and God is not materialistic and does not get angry over rumours. He is a strong, calm and powerful man, he does not care of gossip about a ship, he especially doesn't get angry over it, a ship is nothing to him.

They thought it was unsinkable because it had sixteen watertight compartments and if only four or less of them were flooded the Titanic could stay afloat.

WHO are "they"? The supposition arose from a newspaper journalist reviewing the ship before her fateful maiden voyage, misquoting an engineering trade magazine he probably did not under=stand very well. That journal had carried the much more cautionary remark,after summarising the ships' structure, that "...she should be practically unsinkable..." No-one who knew anything about ships and ship-building would have claimed any ship is "unsinkable". A huge difference!

They said that the titanic wouldn't sink because they used iron and metal and It was hand made and to them because it was so big and wide......... It was indestructible.......... But alas........................ It was to good to be true...................... And it sank
