According to Mr. Franchise of Franchise Foundations, the owners of McDonalds, brothers Dick and Mac McDonald, did not franchise McDonalds. Rather, it was a multimixer salesman they met in 1954, Ray Kroc, who persuaded them to let him franchise the small hamburger stand. They went to LA to get a job. They failed in getting a job so they opened McDonalds. Then they eventually sold it so they could go and travel.
