The Japanese diet is based on tofu, lean meats and lots of rice! Basically its a combination of WHAT the Japanese eat and HOW MUCH that make their diets so good. so basically if you eat Japanese foods, try to eat 6 fist size meals per day incorporating vegetables, miso soup and small portions of rice and meats.
Americans eat a lot of rice so they can be healthy!
rice: most people eat it 3 times a day (i eat it 2 times a day) soy: there are many soy foods so i think about in every meal grains is SOMEHOW in the meals
they don't eat that much rice. it is due to the fact that they have grown away from it over time. the Japanese used to eat mainly rice and soba but that has all changed. they have found themselves eating less and less rice. so there you are... they do eat about 3 rice meals a week but they don't live on rice.

Many Japanese recipes involve saute and boiling not as much as deep frying compare to the U.S. They eat many different type of little dish so usually for dinner there will be many plates all over the table. Such as rice, miso soup, soy sauce plate, flavored saute or raw vegetable, grilled fish (or seafood), meat dish, pickles, so on and on.
