On the other hand.

It is all in the history of language development and classification of species when man became advanced enough.

It does not matter really.

If we managed to go back in time to the source of Cat-name before it became "popular", then I am sure we could tell the people that its name was "Elephant" due to its tale and predatory behaviour.

Names does not really matter. It is our interpretation and understanding of the names that matter. A good example of this is all the different languages in the world.

Why is a donkey "esel" in Norwegian. And why does the word "nail" in English have so many different interpretations.

It is all because we are advanced enough to define and learn. We make new words, we evolve.
