Dog's lick for food or when they want food. It is no kind of action to show that it loves you dogs do that throughout sniffing.

actually because it is a habbit and they also lick theirselves to clean themselves

actually both of you are wrong. if a dog licks you just a little bit, (once or twice at a time) it sees you as its master, and respects you and your personal space.

if it licks you a lot, (at a time) it sees you as its playmate, lower in the pack than him/her

or its just excited for something, or wants something from you.

and in #1 as you said, it doesnt show that they love you, well for them respect is love. And sniffing is just a form of seeing where you have been, who you have interacted with, showing that they miss you, not showing that they love you. then they must really love that mailbox. #2 and it is not a habit.
