gangs often operate on a sort of balance between respect and fear. They have mutual respect with their friends and attempt to strike fear in their enemies and those that cross them, they scare people by deliberately acting, looking and dressing intimidatingly and often recklessly, different gangs have very different ways of instilling fear but all have the use of their reputation and name in common.
