Because the hospital they work for bought five tractor-trailer loads of green scrubs in 1967 and won't run out until 2039. There's no law requiring doctors to wear green scrubs, and many of them don't.

What would a gynecologist wear during their job?

My gynecologist, normally wears green scrubs, a green surgical cap, white latex gloves and blue plastic booties/shoe cover over her "crocks"/slippers. I, as the patient, have to take all my clothes off, put on a white(hospital/examination) gown. I also have to take off my shoes and socks, and cover my barefeet with a pair of blue plastic booties/shoe covers (in this case plastic foot covers). My gynecologist once explained to me that she allways askes her patients to wear those plastic booties without socks, on their barefeet, because, when she is preforming the exam, they have their feet in stirups and she is with her face almost against the soles of their feet and that sometimes it would be very unpleasent, because of the smell, so she made that rule. She is right, if i would be a gynecologist i would also do it. Like this all the patients have the soles of their bare feet covered with plastic and their won't be any smelly feet or socks disturbing your work!
