It's not a laugh like a human laugh, those vocalisations are far reaching ways of hyenas to communicate with their clan. Hyenas are social animals which live in huge groups (called clans) that may be spread out over a large area. They depend on numbers to scavange effectively from other predators, such as a pride of lions, so they "laugh" to signal that they have found food or some other reason for other hyenas of the clan to join them.
The spotted hyena's call only sounds like laughter, they are not really laughing. They make this sound when excited.

You could say something about the hyena's famous laugh or its spots or its relationship with other animals, such as lions and cheetahs. Ex. The hyena's laugh echoed eerily throughout the plains. The spots on the female hyena's legs showed the rest of the clan her power. The hyena hissed at the lionesses as they advanced towards the fresh kill. Good luck!
Funny you should ask. The laughing hyena is sometimes said to laugh, although it is really a kind of bark.
I believe it's because hyenas have a howl that is more sounding like a laugh.
