Probably because it is forbidden in the commandments so people have a sort of taboo against it.
Because it's horrible to steal. Someone robbed my friends house and they took all her dvds and one of them was a homemade dvd with the only memory she had of her birth mum (she's adopted). Also, her adoptive parents are blind and their blind dog was killed. stealing is REALLY unjust and horrid.
