Why do people on WikiAnswers give serious answers to your stupid questions?

Probably for a number of reasons. Sometimes people think that it is amusing to answer a stupid question with a serious answer. Sometimes we aren't sure if a kid is asking who doesn't know the answer. And sometimes, it just passes the time.
We have a number of people who ask the opposite... why don't we answer questions, even when they are stupid... so might as well cover the bases, and help out who we can. We hope that more people will join us in making the world a better place by answering people's questions. :)

One of the tenets of the WikiAnswers site is that there are no stupid questions. What may appear to be a foolish question may result from a lack of understanding by the asker, or some cultural or language issue. So where a question is valid, it is eligible to receive a serious and informative answer.
However, what most users do not see are the many thousands of blatantly nonsense questions, and many more that are unanswerable, which are regularly removed from view on the site.
So you may see a question that has been declared not to be nonsense despite its simple or unusual nature. No such question should ever receive a nonsense answer, although a few may elicit humorous answers by their nature.

Well of course! It's purpose is to help people find references for personal and life questions. It is why there are supervisors to fact check and make sure people get accurate info to their questions.

Think of wikianswers as a little piece of the world, there are nice and not so nice people here. Keep trying and you will mostly find good. In addition, WikiAnswers has over 500 dedicated supervisors who remove answers that do not answer the questions or are not appropriate answers, including those that are joking, rude, or not serious answers. People who give those types of answers are considered vandals and are often blocked from using WikiAnswers.

Why are there locked questions in WikiAnswers?
Some questions attract vandalism, when people change good answers to nonsense. Therefore, those answers are 'locked'.
Why is it that people answer all the stupid questions but not the serious questions on WikiAnswers?
People answer all of the 'stupid' questions because they know the answer to those 'stupid' questions, whereas people do not usually know the correct answer to a serious question. Therefore, they only answer questions that they know the answer to, and ironically not answering the serious questions because they don't know the answer to it.
