To put it simply, HIV attacks or uses some of your white blood cells, specifically CD4+ T-lymphocytes, as "factories" for replication of the the virus. This replication causes the CD4+ cell to die after it has prouced copies of HIV. These CD4 cells are the cell you body would use to attack the virus itself. So essentially, the HIV virus uses your own specific defenses against itself to assure its survival.
NOTE: This question requires a response that is an opinion. Answers may reflect different value sets based on an individuals personal beliefs and life experiences.
There are many reasons why people with AIDS and HIV are discriminated against. Ultimately, it is my opinion that many communities are afraid of the affects of HIV because of its infective potential. Many people are not aware that HIV is only transmitted by fluid-to-fluid contact with one of only four body fluids (blood, semen, vaginal fluid or breast milk.)
It is unfortunate that people see HIV as a virus that is extremely contagious and spreads wildly through the innocent. While nooone deserves HIV and it is almost always contracted by accident; it is within the control of each individual never to be infected with the virus.
In most instances, people who have been infected have engaged in behaviors that some societies consider taboo. The sharing of injection drug using equipment and unprotected oral, anal or vaginal sex are often the leading causes of HIV infection. Many societies have social norms that don't except individuals that may engage in these activities.
Different people's immune systems work in slightly different ways. The basic mechanism is the same but there are some subtle differences.
They may be embarassed or they might want to spread it taking their anger out on everyone.
becausewhen the immune system of people is infected with HIV is compromised and weakened, because of that we dont have enough energy (since it is weak) to fight of infections.
It is tested to determine if the body is producing antibodies to HIV.
The patient is not tested for HIV prior to surgery.
You will have to be tested to know for sure if you have the infection.
Yes. Most of the time people who are infected with HIV have no outward signs or symptoms.
Nurses are not routinely tested for HIV for employment in the US. HIV is not a barrier to working in the health care industry.
Gonorrhea and HIV have the same risk factors. Patients with HIV should be tested annually for gonorrhea. All patients with gonorrhea should be tested for HIV.
You will need to be tested to confirm you have HIV.
No you can not.
You must be tested.
Very unlikely, unless you have had other exposures to the HIV since you last tested.
No it will not. HIV must be specifically tested for.
hiv should not be kept a secret. If you have hiv you have a responsibility to inform anyone who may get it or have gotten it from you so they can be tested
