I've wondered this question for long, too. I believe that most people value common sense, because they can't imagine what other type of sense their is. And this lack of awareness is largely the result of a limited range of desires. For example, most low class people, are completely content in their lives by getting married and making (sometimes too many) kids. To such people, life is only about everything which aids in living a simple life. There is no need for such folks to value much creativity, hard work, special skills, or even luck. In effect, the common man cannot be regarded much differently than the lower animals.
In contrast, the people throughout history whom have solved the most difficult problems, have had more than just practical sense. Factors like curiosity, interest, hard work, creativity, and (at least some) luck, have all played independent roles in their success.
Unfortunately, Intelligence has become a monopolized term, by the IQ elite. There are better models of intelligence, which are more accurate estimators of productivity, but 'practical sense' has taken the spot light. And hence, why the common many values it.
Common sense is not typically considered a value, as it is more of a practical approach to problem-solving based on experience and observation. Values are beliefs that guide behavior and decision-making, while common sense is more about intuitive reasoning and basic logic.

Common sense can be a good starting point in problem-solving, but it may not always lead to the most effective or accurate solutions. It's important to combine common sense with critical thinking, research, and analysis to arrive at the best possible outcome. Relying solely on common sense may overlook important details or nuances that could impact the problem-solving process.

Common sense can vary among individuals due to different upbringings, experiences, and perspectives. Some people may lack common sense due to a lack of knowledge or critical thinking skills. Additionally, emotions, biases, or mental health issues can also impact a person's ability to apply common sense in various situations.
