Saint Vitus was originally formed as Tyrant. They later renamed themselves Saint Vitus, having taken the name from the Black Sabbath song "Saint Vitus Dance". I can't really recall Lee Dorian ever explaining the etymology behind the name Cathedral, but seeing how they cited Candlemass, Trouble, The Obssessed, Pentagram, etc. as their influences, it seems likely it was just a name which had the right "ring" to it. Candlemass does touch on subjects of both religion and fantasy in their lyrics, and they were most likely simply seeking a name which conjured up images of both, although I can't say with any certainty, as I don't recall Leif Edling ever explaining it.
