ONE MAIN reason is that Abrahams & Isaac's role in a symbolic "DRAMA" of Gods' promises & Christ's role as the true messiah! The hundreds prophecies are stated from the OT & fulfilled in the NT!

(Galatians:23, 24) ". . .. 24 These things may be taken as a symbolic drama; for these women mean two covenants, the one from Mount Si′nai, which bears children for slavery and which is Ha′gar."

Christ Jesus was included as he stated from the "Old Testament" prophecies, as stated:

(Luke 24:44-47) "44 He then said to them: "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was yet with you, that all the things written about me in the Law of Moses and in the Prophets and Psalms must be fulfilled." 45 Then he opened up their minds fully to grasp the meaning of the Scriptures, 46 and he said to them, "This is what is written: that the Christ would suffer and rise from among the dead on the third day, 47 and on the basis of his name, repentance for forgiveness of sins would be preached in all the nations-starting out from Jerusalem."

The old testament is a history of the Jewish people. and the prophets told what would happen in the future. And it was fulfilled in the New Testament.

Another answer: Though many people believe the Old Testament is void now, The Bible says that Jesus came to fulfill it, not to abolish it. According to Romans 11 and many other places throughout the Bible, it is stated that when one starts following God, they are grafted on to the Jewish nation, not literally in their bloodline, but spiritually. The covenant made to Abraham and his descendants is then applicable to all believers in God who have repented etc. Remember, Jesus was Jewish too! For example, why do most Christians obey all of the Ten Commandments except the one that commands us to rest on the seventh day, the Sabbath--it is in the same set of laws as murder and idolatry. Many other of God's guidelines from the Old Testament are neglected as well. It is important to be aware that God's "Old" Testament is still the covenant that exists today between those who seek God and God. The New Testament is only a fulfilling of the Old Testament--which proves it all the more true, and important to live by. Of course, you aren't gonna earn salvation through merely physically following his commands, but it helps and God will bless you for it. Besides, did Jesus himself now obey the "law"? If we are to follow his example, then, we, too must follow the law. This is my opinion feel free to think about it yourself and it is highly encouraged to read it too. Lots of pointers to Jesus are there too.

The Hebrew Bible (O.T.) explains how God created us and the universe, whom God chose for his covenant, and why. These provide essential lessons concerning where we came from, what our purpose is, examples of proper behavior, etc.

Because it was written first, and is about the first covenant God made with Israel. The New Testament is about the second covenant God made with all Christians, Jewish and Gentile.
