The reason most people burn ticks out of skin is because the heat from whatever they are burning it with makes the tick back out of the skin. If you just ripped the tick out the head would and or could detach and cause a sickness called tick fever that is most times fatal.
The reason for not squeezing an attached tick is that that will push the contents of its stomach back into the wound. Do you really want bug vomit in your blood? I didn't think so.
There are two problems with burning them: one, it's hard to do without also burning the person they're attached to, and two, you really don't want to kill the tick while it's still attached, you want to make it let go (and then kill it).
