Salt water iscleaned the same way as any water. it is run through filters. this cleans the water as in salt water swimming pool but does not remove the salt. to remove sat you need a desalinater.

∙ 13y agoIt is best to get the cleaning solution for your specific unit as suggested by the manufacturer. I used to clean mine in a solution of hydrochloric acid, however this is not a method recommended by a lot of the manufacturers.
I typically remove the cell, and then using a mixture of water:muriatic acid (4:1), I pour the mixture through the cell into a bucket. Repeat this procedure as many times as necessary until all the calcium buildup disappears. Rinse thoroughly. A safe way to dispose of the acid solution is to pour it into your pool. ∙ 11y agoTypically a cell for a salt system is cleaned on average once or twice a year.
If you find yourself doing this more often the chemical balance is to blame.
Usually hard water (calcium hardness is to high) and high pH are the culprits.
Take your water to your nearest pool store and have them test it.
Remedies usually require addition of muriatic acid to lower the pH, dilution of your water to lower the calcium level and the use of a sequestering agent.
