Belt worn out, too loose, or the pulleys are out of alignment or bent. Another reason is you have bought the wrong kind or size belt for the application. The belt must match the pulleys or it will not stay on.
Remove the belt from your 1985 Nissan 300 alternator. Remove the wiring harness from the alternator. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. The alternator will come off.

Check out autozone.com which has online repair manuals. The manual (which is almost a copy of chilton's manual) says to rotate the tensioner and pull off the belt before removing the alternator.
There is a belt tightener on the alternator which must be loosened to take the belt off. After the belt is loose, remove the bottom mounting bolt and the alternator is off. you will also need to remove the wiring.

Loosen both bolts on the alternator will free up the belt. When putting on the new one make sure u get the belt real tight around the alternator, by pulling the it hard when tighten the alternator back up or will not charge the battery or the belt might to come off.
the alternator is run off of your s belt, it doesnt have its own specific belt
Its on the passenger side of the car. It comes out of the bottom. There is a small splash guard covering it. The A/C belt has to come off before the alternator belt. Have fun! Have you tried opening the hood?????????
