Boys are, in general, bigger in all aspects than girls; they naturally have bigger bones and muscles, which makes them physically larger. This is because the genes that are passed down from generation to generation over hundreds, even thousands of years, encode for larger males. This pattern is also seen in many mammals, and it is a pattern of sexual dimorphism (differences between the sexes) that has been consistent in many species. From an evolutionary standpoint, the larger size of males may have been favoured in natural selection because a bigger male may be stronger, more capable of attracting and defending a female mate. So, in the end, the bigger males have a better chance of survival and a better chance of securing a mate through which they can pass on their advantageous "big" genes.
