The Heart of Darkness has two competing heroes that include Marlow and Kurtz. There is no explanation as to why there are two heroes but the questions is often asked in essays in which you have to choose one to be the main hero. Marlow is considered to be the true hero because he endures and lives.

∙ 13y agoMarlowe is one of these guys who just can't stand a lie, can't forgive the fault in others either. However when he meets with Kurtz's widow he can't bring himself to tell her 'his last words' (they were pretty horrible) and tells her instead his last word was her name. He is then surprised how simple it was and what beneficial effects it had.
