The Confederate Flag does not symbolize slavery. Yes that was one reason why the South secede from the Union but the biggest deal was the South was being taxed high on there cotton by Lincoln so in doing so they secede, Slavery was around before the Confederate States of America was even set up. The flag does NOT symbolize Slavery it Symbolize a group of people who had the guts to stand up for themselves and withdraw from the union with out any war ,but that did not set well with Lincoln.

The above is the answer given by people who are supporters of slavery and of the southern states' secession. The southern states secession forced the war on Our nation in order to free the human beings who were being treated worse than dogs by greedy, wealthy, murderous plantation owners. There IS no excuse for slavery. Nor is there any excuse for the ignorance that prevails in the confederate wanna-be types to this very day in America.

Antebellum homes = slave owners residences = evil that was done within

Why is the confederate flag so constroversial?

Much of the controversy comes from misunderstandings. First, what flag do they have issues with? Most people when asked what the "Confederate Flag" looks like would point to a red banner with a blue cross corner to corner with 13 stars in the cross. Some people even refer to this flag as the "stars and bars" because it has white stars on blue bars. Both of those beliefs are FALSE! The flag that most people think of as the "Confederate Flag" is the Confederate Navy Jack (rectangular flag) or the Confederate Cavalry or Artillery flag (square flag). There were three (3) official flags of the Confederate States of America and this flag was NOT one of them. The Confederate Stars and Bars (first flag of the Confederate States of America) looks nothing like the Confederate Navy Jack or Cavalry flags. Take a look at Georgia's state flag. Except for the state seal in the circle of 13 stars, that is the first flag of the Confederacy, the "Stars and Bars." The second point: Some will say that the "Confederate Flag" stands for slavery or racism. Others will say that the "Confederate Flag" stands for rebels and "red necks." The association of the "Confederate Flag" with controversy may have begun with "white supremacy" movements of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) founded in the Southern States in 1865 by Confederate veterans.

It might be that the Confederate flag is preferred today by white supremacists and segregationists. Or it might just be that black people have a strong patriotic preference for the lawful flag of the United States.

Why is the confederate flag considered raciest?

The confederate flag is considered to be racist by some people because it represented the south in the civil war, and one of the most memorable issues of that war was that of slavery. The south used black slaves and were defending slavery because their economy was almost solely based on agriculture and they believed they needed slaves to work on the plantations. As a result, the confederate flag is now associated with the support of slavery and the subjugation of African Americans.
